EMF Protection Smart meters

If you have a new electricity meter, a so-called Smart meter, in a facade cabinet, you can put shielding fabric, wallpaper or paint on the entire inside of the wall where the electricity meter is located. If you live in an apartment just above the electrical switchboard where the electricity meters are located, you can cover the floor in the relevant space with our shielding fleece material SAFEBUILD A190.

If the electricity meter is indoors, you can instead sew a curtain of shielding fabric, such as Steel-Twin, to act as a shield for the meter's communication.

It is also good to install an external directional antenna for GSM/DCS/UMTS/HSDPA/LTE (see image below) on the outside of the meter cabinet. The antenna ensures that the signal from the electricity meter is outside the home and the electricity meter signal is directed away from the home. The power of the electricity meter also goes down as it is guaranteed good coverage instead of a small antenna that sits inside the electricity meter and transmits inside the home. If an external antenna is fitted, it is important that the antenna in the meter is disconnected so that it does not continue to radiate. An electrician can be hired to install a directional antenna with the associated cable in a freely elevated position.
