US health department to launch study on cellphone radiation

The US Department of Health and Human Services will launch a study on radiation from mobile phones, a spokesperson for the department announced in mid-January, based on criticism from Minister Robert F. Kennedy Jr, who links radiation to neurological damage and cancer.

Last year, the department said 22 states had restricted cell phone use in schools to improve kids' mental and physical health as part of the “Make America Healthy Again” campaign.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) also took down old web pages that said cell phones aren't dangerous.

“The FDA removed web pages with old conclusions about cell phone radiation, while HHS is conducting a study on electromagnetic radiation and health research to identify knowledge gaps, including on new technologies, to ensure safety and effectiveness,” said HHS spokesman Andrew Nixon.

“The study was led by President Trump's MAHA Commission in its strategy report,” Nixon added.

However, some websites, such as the FDA, continue to claim that there is no credible evidence to date pointing to health problems resulting from cell phone radiation.
